I believe in keeping things simple. Simple however doesn't mean bad design, it is good use of negative space, uncluttered clean and crisp.
Not every web site, brochure or business card can be perfect in everyone's eyes - a balance needs to be made between what is good and what is needed. Some people are specific about colour and layout because of their company branding. No one design is necesssarily right or wrong. If it promotes your business and increases customer numbers then it is right for you.
